Phô soup

October 9, 2009 Eat

The other night my husband was working late and I was feeling lazy so I decided to try the new Vietnamese restaurant that just took over the space of my beloved butcher in our neighborhood.  The appropriate 3 months of mourning the loss of such a great shop had passed, and I’ve always been a […]

Beaujo’s Pizza

September 29, 2009 Eat

I’ve been sticking to my low carb eating successfully this trip, not even with stress or regret.  This is despite being back in my hometown, with, of course, all the hometown temptations. But there are lots of ways to make Mexican low carb as long as you avoid the rice, beans & tortiallas, so that’s […]

Low carbin’ California

July 30, 2009 Eat

I’m reporting in from vacation, a brief stop at Starbucks for internet. So far, so good on the diet front.  I’ve been able to successfully stick to low carb eating, passing up lots of junk at the beach and the full breakfast options.  My husband has been only mildly annoyed (he would love to just […]

Pure, I mean PURE, chocolate

July 10, 2009 Eat

I’ve been on this carb-restricted way of eating for well over 3 months now.  I continue to be amazed by the lack of hunger, the indulgent foods (butter! cheese! salad dressing!) and how easy it’s been to stick to. I’ve not had cravings, or the carb-flu or any other bad effects frankly. Hardest for me […]

I eat.

June 12, 2009 Eat

In times of stress, I eat. I have done this all my life, so why would I think now is any different? It’s definitely a time of stress. I suppose what is different now is what I’m eating.  I would never have believed it, but this low-carb thing has really changed the way I eat.  […]

Carbohydrate challenges

May 19, 2009 Eat

I took my team out for lunch today.  It was the first time we’ve had a birthday in the group, and I wanted a rapid teambuilding thing, so figured it was a good choice.  Our office in Germany is in a business park in a suburb, and frankly there isn’t much around.  We eat everyday […]

Not so hard

April 20, 2009 Eat

I am pretty surprised that this restricted-carbohydrate way of eating is turning out to be not-so-hard.  This week I made it through a week of travel, market research, 2 business dinners, 4 flights & rarely being in control of my lunch choices and still did okay.  I think I’m eating too many nuts (because they […]

less hungry, but missing fruit

April 10, 2009 Eat

That’s my Friday summary of the first 5 days of low-carb eating.  I could also add that it’s socially awkward and not easy to find suitable food on the run… I made a smart move of packing a bag of almonds before my travels this week, and had to dip into them twice on airplanes […]

thinking things through

April 5, 2009 Eat

I know that to be successful on a diet it is SO much easier to be at home, where you are in some control of the environment and can find the diet-friendly choices that you prefer.  To not be constantly surrounded by temptation. But this year is one of enormous travel and little quality time […]

Getting a little control

January 21, 2009 Eat

Sometimes the hardest thing is just seeing where you are – and once you do that it’s somehow possible to see at least a hint of a path to where you want to be. Since writing to acknowledge where I am and how hard it is, it’s seemed just a little bit easier to get […]

Industrial cookies and other temptations

January 9, 2009 Eat

When I get back home tonight I’ll upload the pictures of all the goodies piled on our meeting table these past few days. I resisted almost everything, but yesterday I did open the cookies and had 3 of them, which were probably about 100 calories (they’re pretty small). They weren’t very good, and for that […]

Derailed so easily…but back on track again

January 4, 2009 Eat

It’s frightening how easy it is to go off course, especially since I was doing so well.  The good thing is that it was a minor blip, and that it happened really early in the year, before I’ve finished my Best Year Yet work (upcoming post sometime this week), because I am now certain I’m […]

A new blog and a protein festival

January 3, 2009 Eat

The New Blog : I have been pretty consistent about keeping the daily food log here on my blog these past few weeks.  It’s been helpful for me to write it down, and it’s turned out to be a pretty convenient format. My only regret is that it’s often overtaken any thoughtful blogging.  It’s hard […]

I’m getting used to not overeating – is this possible?

January 1, 2009 Eat

I’ve never been what I would call a binge eater, but I have been capable of eating large quantities of food when I indulge, often in a social context, or when things are particularly yummy to me. These past few weeks I’ve really been trying to pay attention to being satisfied and the point of […]
